The afternoon program will consist of a lecture by Robert Eschbacher of VHB Engineering on the "Traffic Impact Study for the Long Island Lighthouse Project". This project is a $3.7 Billion transformation of the Nassau Coliseum site and surrounding area including a revitalized arena for the New York Islanders; residential, retail, hotel, and office development; a multi-purpose athletic complex, conference and exhibition facilities; and a minor league ballpark. The lecture will be held from 4:00-5:30 pm and offer 1.5 PDH in continuing education credit. The evening program will include dinner and a lecture by Phyllis Elgut, Robb Smith and Margaret Conklin of NYSDOT Region 10 on the "Vision Plan for a Green Route 347". This project builds upon the approved transportation infrastructure improvements and its safety and mobility improvements for Nesconset Highway, and incorporates features that protect and enhance the environment while incorporating the principles of smart growth and land use planning. The dinner and lecture will be held from 6:30-8:30 pm and 1.0 PDH in continuing education credit is pending. The evening program will be preceded by a reception and cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30 pm. Some efforts will include the reorganization of libraries, work in technology centers, clean-up of playgrounds, and painting murals and line games. Last year, the YMF helped to beautify PS 85 in the Bronx, and pictures are posted in the photo gallery on the Met Section website. This year, the YMF group has been assigned to work at PS 47 (The John Randolph School) in the Bronx, which is located one block away from the St. Lawrence Avenue subway station on the No. 6 line.
