Technical Lectures with ITE Met Section
On Thursday, September 17th, the Long Island Branch, in association with the
ITE Met Section, will be holding two technical lectures at the Milleridge
Inn Cottage House in Jericho, NY.
The afternoon program will consist of a lecture by Robert Eschbacher of VHB
Engineering on the "Traffic Impact Study for the Long Island Lighthouse
Project". This project is a $3.7 Billion transformation of the Nassau
Coliseum site and surrounding area including a revitalized arena for the New
York Islanders; residential, retail, hotel, and office development; a
multi-purpose athletic complex, conference and exhibition facilities; and a
minor league ballpark. The lecture will be held from 4:00-5:30 pm and offer
1.5 PDH in continuing education credit.
The evening program will include dinner and a lecture by Phyllis Elgut, Robb
Smith and Margaret Conklin of NYSDOT Region 10 on the "Vision Plan for a
Green Route 347". This project builds upon the approved transportation
infrastructure improvements and its safety and mobility improvements for
Nesconset Highway, and incorporates features that protect and enhance the
environment while incorporating the principles of smart growth and land use
planning. The dinner and lecture will be held from 6:30-8:30 pm and 1.0 PDH
in continuing education credit is pending. The evening program will be
preceded by a reception and cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30 pm.

UWNY's Haverstraw Water Supply Project
On Wednesday, September 30th, John Dyksen P.E. and Sameet Master P.E. will
be giving a lecture on United Water New York's Haverstraw Water Supply
Project, a project which would construct a desalination facility in
Haverstraw to produce potable water from the Hudson River. The event will
begin at 6 pm with introductions and a social/hour dinner, followed by the
presentation and discussion at 6:30 pm.
The lecture will be held at the McLaren Engineering Group in West Nyack, NY
and will be good for 1.0 PDH in continuing education credits. The deadline

Career Development: Take Your Career Wherever You Want to Take It!
On Thursday, October 15th, Anthony Fasano, P.E., CPESC, CPSWQ, LEED AP will
be giving a presentation to the Younger Member Forum on the topic of career
development. Anthony is the President of the Rockland Chapter of NYSSPE and
is a Certified Professional Coach, having given career development seminars
within his firm. At the lecture, he will be discussing the six points he
believes to be critical to career development and will be on hand afterwards
to provide individual one-on-one coaching for anyone that is interested.
The event will begin at 6 pm and will be held at Langan Engineering at 360
West 31st Street in Manhattan. There is no charge to attend but advance
registration is required; the last day to sign up is on October 13th.

Lateral Load Analysis of Pile Groups Based on Full-Scale Tests
On Wednesday, October 14th, Dr. Kyle Rollins of Brigham Young University
will be giving a presentation on "Lateral Load Analysis of Pile Groups Based
on Full-Scale Tests. The lecture will begin at 6:00 pm and will be preceded
by refreshments at 5:30 pm. Dr. Rollins has authored over 120 technical
papers and has been awarded the Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research
Prize and the Wellington Prize by ASCE.
The event will be held at the CUNY Graduate Center Recital Hall at 365 Fifth
Avenue in New York City (at the northeast corner of Fifth Avenue and 34th
Street). Professional Development Hours (PDHs) have been applied for; PDH
certificates are free for ASCE members and $10 for non-members. Please see

Fifth Annual ASHE/ASCE Scholarship Golf Outing
On Thursday, October 15th, the ASCE Met Section International Group will be
holding a golf outing with the ASHE New York Metro Section to help raise
scholarship funds for the two organizations. The event will be held at
Hollow Brook Golf Club in Cortlandt Manor, New York. Set in a valley
bordered on one side by a mountain ridge, the course's design incorporates
dramatic elevation changes, gently undulating fairways, and a stream that
runs through the property.
The event will begin with registration at 8 am, followed by a shotgun start
at 9 am (with a scramble format). Registration fees include greens fees, a
new GPS electric cart, lunch, and awards. Please see the event flyer on the

New York Cares Day
On Saturday, October 17th, the Younger Member Forum will be joining
thousands of volunteers across New York City to help revitalize more than
100 public schools during the 18th Annual New York Cares Day. Some efforts
will include the reorganization of libraries, work in technology centers,
clean-up of playgrounds, and painting murals and line games. Last year, the
YMF helped to beautify PS 85 in the Bronx, and pictures are posted in the
photo gallery on the
Met Section website.
This year, the YMF group has been assigned to work at PS 47 (The John
Randolph School) in the Bronx, which is located one block away from the St.
Lawrence Avenue subway station on the No. 6 line. The event will run from
9:30 am - 3:30 pm. Please see the event flyer on the ASCE Met Section
